Project Life | Week 27-29

How is everyone doing? We are very close to September approaching and I am just thinking what the month will bring. I have decided I will not be doing Learn Something New Everyday but have decided to sign up for Becky Higgins Project Real Life thru BPC. Her class calendar spoke to me. This year I have made quite a few changes, some personal, but lots of them have been related to getting in touch with "real life". An example is making a goal to read more books, which is something I had been missing in my life ( I hope to dedicate a post sometime soon about what I have been reading). I guess what I have cultivated is more balance and I hope to do that more frequently.

For those of you doing PL and even those who are not, have you seen the new product designs? I was talking with a friend tonight and she asked what I thought. What I am most interested in is the photo protectors. I love the square ones made for instragram photos ( I don't have instragram, but I still like this option ). As for the new design editions I think they are pretty fantastic... will I purchase them? Not likely. Here's the thing... I am not bored with what I have. Shocked? I am. Here is the original kit I made early January... have I used all the product here? Nope. Have I added on to this already huge kit? Yes. I purchased lots of digital items from Jessica Sprague and I am quite content. Something I will likely do... purchase a few Fall -like papers to keep with the change in season.

Ok... on with the PL layouts :)

Thanks so much for all your positive comments about my PL album. Tell me, what has influenced your own Project Life?
Take it easy friends!

  1. Looking great - enjoy how you put your stamp on it all.

I'm also unlikely to buy one of the new kits because I have more than enough in the kit I made up from my stash plus a few digi elements I've bought along the way - might look at the digi version of seafoam for just some elements

    1. Thanks Helena :) I will likely buy a few new elements from the digi store for variety.

  2. Every time I look at yours, Ginger, I think "I really ought to do this, or something like it!" I just love the variety of things on here ...

    1. I really dove right in when I finally made the decision. I do find though Alexa I am not making very many scrapbook pages, perhaps that is the payoff?

  3. I'M doing this too only because unlike you I bought the project life stuff and then have had an absolute block. Yours are beautiful and I hope at the end I have some pages half as good :0)

  4. A big part of me agrees with Alexa, I find that your album has so much diversity and detail. But, and this is a big but - I think PL would create a lot of performance anxiety in me ... if I didn't do each week as I went it would be all over for me ... I have a short attention span!
I am impressed you have managed your supplies so well, that is probably why I am enjoying seeing your album unfold, it is very unique and that is down to you using product that reflects you and your style :-)

    1. I completely understand Amy. I am probably 3 weeks behind (maybe more!) but I am okay, because i do have photos and it's easy enough to just slide them in these sheets, but don't get me wrong there is still planning. I try to do my photo editing (adding words or whatever) and I plan how many I can fit and where they will go. If I don't have too much time, I will not do as much editing. Lots of photos come from my cell and so I am always uploading those too.

I have done two weeks on one layout spread... that helped when I was very busy.

  5. wonderful pages Ginger. i have really enjoyed seeing how your PL album comes together and i do think that it is something i would love to do, especially now when the boys are still young. Its time that i find would restrict me! never say never though!! x

    1. thank you Louise :)Yes time is definitely a factor for sure! One does need to plan when doing PL, but it is not too bad. It took me a bit of time to find a rhythm and life does come in to play as well!

  6. PL is a bit full on for me - i fear that if I took it on I wouldn't have time for anything else. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy seeing the results of other s labours though!

    1. Thank you Sian :) Yes, I know you are involved in lots of other DT and projects, it would be hard to hold this down as well. It was a deliberate choice I made when I decided to start scrapbooking this way. I don't make as many layouts that is for sure and I hope to change a bit of that :) Still looking for a happy medium!

  7. I always love to see your PL pages, Ginger! My PL has been a whole lot of photos printed and stuck into the sleeves with the intention of going back later and embellishing and journaling. I'll admit to being a bit behind on that aspect, but I'm loving the project just the same! My Carrie was big on purchasing a kit when she started her PL (several months before mine) but I resisted. I spent some time in the beginning cutting pieces of cardstock to size so I'd have inserts on hand - I like my own stuff just as well as the purchased kits. :o) Any way you look at it, this is such a fun project and such a great way to get my photos OUT of my computer and into a form that preserves them in a fun way.

    1. I did exactly what you did Deb. I do love the kits and think they are beautiful, and I also think if you want to start and are a bit worried about time, then the kits are definitely the way to go! I agree - I am using way more photos now than I have in the past :)

  8. So yeah, I've gone and signed up for Becky Higgins' Project REAL Life class. I haven't bought a blessed thing as I already have some divided page protectors that would probably work, but I fell in LOVE (or maybe it is lust?) with the new "Olive" line (which isn't olive at all!). This year I've been using a 2 up photo album for my OLW "focus" project and filling it in has been a total delight. I still don't think I have the focus or desire to do a two page layout every week, but we'll see where I stand on that after class!

    1. yeah!! I'm happy you signed up :) I like that Olive line too and might buy some of the 3x4 cards at some point. The great thing about PL is you can do whatever you want. If one page per week works better for you, then you can do it, or if you would rather do a month over two pages it works too!

  9. Oh Ginger, I do so love your Project Life! I've totally failed to put mine together, not least because my order didn't actually arrive till mid February so I was already behind, and I've just felt too daunted to ever catch up! I think I need to cut my losses and choose a new starting date, and just go from then... Though it seems a shame to waste what I've collected together this year. Dilemma, dilemma.... *sigh!*

    1. Thanks Mel :) Ahh that is too bad. If I ever felt like I was too far behind I probably would just do that (start at the new date). I think Cathy Z talked about that. She started last year and then did not enjoy it (I think that's what I read) and stopped, but this year she just started fresh. So maybe a fresh approach is all that is needed. You can begin any time. i don't know if that helps your dilemma :)

  10. I just never found a great way to collect things, take notes, print photos, and then go back and complete the pages within a week or so. I never understood those people who say PL takes them less time than completing layouts!

I might try again next year, but I really have to decide ahead of time what is going to work for me. I still would much rather do layouts. Or mini albums. Or art journals.....But I do love the months/weeks that I was able to complete.

  11. Hi Ginger,
I just found your blog through PRL at BPC. Have you read Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet or The Book Theif? Both great books! I'm trying to read more, too! I'm a number girl at heart so even though I enjoy it, I have to force myself to read! Glad to have found your blog! By the way, I'm in CA too--California that is!
