Late last night I rung up my dad to ask him a few questions about the photos I was fingering through and in particular the one of him going to school with his horse "Old Pete". We had a bit of a chuckle as I told him tomorrow (today) was Storytelling Sunday and I needed him to share with me what he remembered about "Old Pete" and the walks to school.
Old Pete was slow on his walks, he was old, but gentle and managed to get my dad, Aunt Meta and the cousins to school in a timely manner. I made a layout below and the journaling reads as follows:
"Old Pete" had a job and that was to walk the 3 1/2 miles... pulling the children along in the caboose. His job was to get the children to school before 9:00. Once he arrived, dad would detach the caboose and Pete was put into his barn stall where he would wait for his oat bundle at lunch. He had a good rest before the 3 1/2 mile walk back... dropping the cousins off on the way.
"Old Pete" may have walked slow, but he was always reliable, except for when he was shy and would turn around and walk the other way!
There is my story for this edition of Storytelling Sunday.
