"Old Pete" had a job and that was to walk the 3 1/2 miles... pulling the children along in the caboose. His job was to get the children to school before 9:00. Once he arrived, dad would detach the caboose and Pete was put into his barn stall where he would wait for his oat bundle at lunch. He had a good rest before the 3 1/2 mile walk back... dropping the cousins off on the way.
"Old Pete" may have walked slow, but he was always reliable, except for when he was shy and would turn around and walk the other way!
