Busy Hands...

I have had a wonderful weekend in my art room playing with paints and stamps and embellishments and just... taking the time to relax and CREATE... I have to say... my work week is extremely exhausting these days and last week was a bit of a reprieve with the Stat holiday and having Friday off... so tomorrow it starts again :)

On Friday while shopping for goodies for my classes I happened upon a woman Artist at "Michaels". I was searching for canvases and paint; first I went to the craft section where they have all the cheap paints, where I wanted to look for some new colours. This woman was kneeling and leaning with her head practically touching the floor; I could hear her mumbling something to herself... she soon noticed she had company in the aisle and stood up. I started browsing at the paint at which point she interrupted me... at first I was a bit indifferent until I started listening to what she had to say... I had no idea how to pick out paint... she proceeded to show me all the old bottles of paint and how to tell they were old... I mean, I am aware that if the paint is separated from the oil it is no longer good, but what I did not know was how to tell by smelling the paint and if it is pulling away from the bottle. She proceeded to provide me with a lesson on when to buy paint. We live in a country where the cold weather affects many things, one of them being chemicals, so if a shipment of paint freezes it affects it's chemical makeup and "poof" you no longer have suitable paint as it will crack and peel from your canvas.

I ended up not buying any paint as I felt I would be wasting money and besides, who am I kidding... I have enough paint... :)

Here are 3 more journal pages for my Got Paint class...

This one was lots of fun! I used some of my stamps to create a background on top of the dry brush acrylic application.

Sorry, this photo is a bit blurry. The background is gesso applied on some very old patterned paper that after all these years I have found a new use for. Once the gesso dried, I used an acrylic wash (I also textured the gesso prior to it drying). I couldn't help but use the little paper doilies I purchased at the dollar store... these flowers make me happy :)

I used the stencils to create this leaf pattern on some already patterned paper. I love the colour combination of orange red and soft blue. I also pulled out some of these little punched butterflies I got from Lisa! It really feels good to use up what you already have!

Until next time!

Got Paint?

Soon, hubby will be in the office for most of the weekend so I thought I would do a quick post! Here are 3 pages for my Got Paint? Art Journal. Emily had us start with various backgrounds and then left the finishing of the pages up to our imagination...

Page one is my acrylic wash using 3 different colours. This is my cover page.

This second page is using a dry brush to apply acrylic, it gives it that rough kind of look. I also sprayed some glimmer mist for contrast.

The final page is using a stencil/mask. I was so pleased with my purchases from the dollar store. I bought 8 different masks for $4.

I am LOVING my scanner!! Wow... scanning these in has saved me oodles of time.

Have a wonderful and creative day!!

Classes Update

Wellness Journey completed today :(  Lisa Cohen brought lots of great information to the class. I`m sad to see it end, however... I will continue with my journey. I can say after the 8 weeks I feel so much better. I am sleeping more soundly and my stress has decreased. I believe it is from the techniques I learned from class on deep breathing and taking some time each day to be quiet and reflective. I am still seeing results on the scale and am continuing with my fitness regime. I am confidant with my strength training and look forward to setting some new goals.

Yesterday and Today: I have kind of let this class slip by the wayside. Mostly because other things have come up...I am so happy for forever access at BPC.

Got Paint?:  I signed up for this class last night, it is only four weeks long, and my goal this year is to learn more about mixed media, how could I resist? LOL! This weeks assignment is to start an art journal... Hello!! I already have one started :0 But no... I will make one specific to this class...

She Art:  I can't wait for this one... I am fascinated by Christy's techniques and her canvases are truly a work of art... very inspirational!

Question??? I received an e-mail this morning on this upcoming class by Julie at Balzer Designs....called It's Sew Easy... ewwwhhh this one intrigues me because it includes sewing.... and mixed media... anyone interested in signing up with me as my friend?? LOL! Really... she is offering a 20% discount for friends, so it will cost $68 USD versus $85 if you sign up by yourself.... let me know if you are interested!

I thought I would share a few photos from February.

Vegas Layout

I decided to work on my Jessica Sprague "Now We're Rockin' " Digi class. So here is my layout. I 'm happy with how it turned out and I learned a few new tricks with PSE. You can see how I used the burn tool to darken the edges of the graph paper... love it!

Also, here is a quick sketch I did... I'm contemplating how I can use it for a collage... I will need to think a bit more...
Here is hoping you are able to exercise a little creativity today!

Art Journal & My Other Husband

Here are a couple more journal pages I worked on last night and this afternoon.
I had been coveting some Tim Holtz stamps from Michaels for a long time. They are his older collections but still lots of fun, I had to try them out last night.

Marvin is making ribs tonight for dinner and then I will be able to see my other husband... Oh... you didn't know I had a second husband?
Here he is...
I know, he's dreamy.. :)

Yes, so I will be immersed in his new movie... the Mechanic... should be full of action!
 Have an amazing evening!!

Coq au Vin

Whenever I want to make something special there is only one cookbook I turn to... "The Joy of Cooking"... It has all the classics and offers up important details in each chapter.

I had never made this dish before, but I have eaten it. Taking my time cooking this meal leaves a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction. This was our Valentine's Dinner...

What are some classic dishes you enjoy?

Embrace Imperfection

BPC has a free 2 week class taught by Karen Grunberg called Embrace Imperfection. The premise is that we are too critical of what we create and more worried about what others think of our work and instead of overcoming these obstacles maybe we don't do the things we want, or it takes us much longer to do them.

I took a class from Lisa well over a year ago... see it here and from that experience I had an idea in my head of a collage I wanted to create, but did not feel I was good enough to do it, in fact I did start it and then put it away up until last week. After taking Lisa's Art Journaling class, it inspired me to work on this....

I may not have created the perfect cat, but boy did I have fun making it!

Just a couple reminders:

1. Valentine's Giveaway ends tomorrow night - see the post here.
2. I have three people signed up for the Pay It Forward, so if you would like to join in I have two more spots. You can read more about it here and here.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Sunday afternoon!

Art Journal Pages

I cannot wait to show you how productive I was in Lisa's class. One thing I learned about Art Journaling is not to stress. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, I thought I would have to make all these pages with feelings and stories, but I realized, an Art Journal can be whatever you want it to be and Lisa encouraged us to not think about a theme etc. She showed us some techniques on making backgrounds and then how to layer and add the final touches. I made 6 PAGES in 4 hours!! (If you know me, then you know that it takes me hours sometimes to do one scrapbook layout). I let loose and let it happen however it was meant to be. Lisa helped guide us along to ensure we would have enough backgrounds to play with and then showed us how to make the binding, which is sewing the pages onto ribbon. This class totally got me pumped! I feel so inspired, with ideas and it actually got me drawing again, something I haven't done in years!

Here is the inside cover and the first page which is Sticky Back Canvas that I used Ranger Wash with two different stencils. I love how it turned out.
Honestly, I felt like this was home for me... that feeling of content and happiness...

My classmate for the afternoon was Peggy, we met online at Renee Pearson where we both took Digital Collage 101, and she introduced me to Shimelle... and we have been in a few classes at BPC! Good to meet you in person Peggy!

Thanks Lisa for all your inspiration, you are the best!!

Have a great night everyone.

Art Journal Class

I cannot wait for tomorrow's Art Journal Class with Lisa!! If you want to sign up check out the Treasured Memories website. Here is one of her sneak peeks..

One of my goals this year is to take more classes involving mixed media and Lisa is so creative, she never disappoints with her amazing and talented self!

Well I am off to ready my supplies.

Revised Pay It Forward

Hello Everyone!

So some of you have emailed me to say you are interested, but either you do not have a blog, or you don't have the time to pay it forward to 5 people, so... I have decided to change things :)  I will forego the original rules. I will still make something homemade to 5 people, but if you do not want to participate in the pay it forward part, or if you only want to make something for 1 or 2 people, that is completely fine by me! So if that makes it easier for any of you then by all means please let me know. I am totally okay with it!

So there we have it! Happy Friday!

Pay It Forward

Last week I saw this on Melissa's blog and I am so excited to participate in the Pay It Forward!

Here is the plan...I promise I will make something handmade to the FIRST 5 people who leave a comment here specifically stating they want to join in the Pay It Forward fun. The original "rules" state that you must repost this status, offering something handmade by you to 5 other people and it must be sent to your 5 people some time in 2011.

I will be looking at your blog and contact you shortly after with some questions on your interests. I cannot guarantee how long it will take me to make this item for you, but I ensure you will receive it by the end of 2011.

**Please note** Do not feel you have to be someone who regularly comments on my blog... this is open to anyone and everyone!

P.S. I just purchased some "Handmade" magazines and am so excited to start creating something just for you!

Revised: the PIF is now closed :)
