Catching Up!

Well!  So some of you may be wondering why it`s taking me so long to post... Marvin warned me earlier this week that I would not be able to use the computer for a few days, because he decided to get Windows 7!!!!  Let me tell you, good thing I got the heads up!  Boy, now I have lots of catching up to do! Hee! Hee!

Friday night we had an awesome time at Wendy`s B-day Party!  We all got together at TM, the TM gals bought Wendy a cake!  Isn`t it great...Here is a layout I did for my class with some of the pictures of the party!
Digital Kit from Digi Files (Danielle with SBS), Black ticker tape at bottom right from ScrapArtist (Eclectic Designs by Gabi), template design by Cathy Zielske.
I love how this layout turned out, it was lots of fun to make.

Here are my other two assignments.
I love this layout with the pretty colors from Crate Paper.  These are some old photos of my trip to Guatemala...
Crate Paper, Stampin' Up cardstock & Stamps, layout design by Cathy Zielske.

It is quite amusing how long it took for me to get this page done!  Brenda is taking this class with me, and we were both at TM working on our assignments Friday night, Brenda had all three assignments completed, and I was still debating on the flourishes I doodled on the page...  Really, I am kinda nuts....

Paper; M.Frances, Basic Grey, Stampin' Up (cardstock), Stamp; Stampin' Up, Alphabet stickers; Rose Moka, Prima embellishments.  Layout design, Cathy Zielske.

I am looking forward to the class I am taking next Saturday at Treasured Memories....Whoo Haaa!
You have to check this out!!!  I can`t wait...
Seriously, if you are bored, or need some ideas, check out the Treasured Memories classes, the gals there are awesome and very talented!

Have a great week!

Good Evening!

I can't believe the weekend is almost over...  I have enjoyed it so much!

Today I worked on my third assignment for the week.  The third assignment is what Cathy calls Real World Color.  She introduces us to a new color palette for the week and we are asked to do the assignment sketch based on the color palette.  Here is a picture of the colors...

And so this is the layout I came up with...

I love these photographs from Carmen & John's wedding.  Credit for the photos goes to Fotojenik'z, normally I would provide you with the link, but not sure why, I cannot find them on the internet?

Paper; Jessica Sprague, (Echoes of Asia-color altered), Scrap Artist - Edeline Designs (Sweet Promise), Designer Digitals, (Help Haiti), Elements; K. Pertiet - Vintage Snips, DD (Help Haiti) Flower, brad & stitching.

That's all the time I have, I must start getting things ready for the work week!  Have a great Sunday night!

Saturday...

So I thought I would share with you some pictures of what I was up to yesterday (my day off), I love having an extra long weekend... it just makes for... extra time to relax and have fun!  So I hooked up with my friend Sandy... we went for some sushi downtown and had a great visit.

See, I do get out... (this blog was beginning to look like I do nothing but scrap!)  LOL!

Now on to my next subject of interest.... my layout assignments... which I know you have been waiting for!

These pictures were taken in 2006 (the last time we were at Folkfest!).  This is a layout on repetition, as you can see I have three areas of red, the flourish at the top left, the paper on the right and the title.  I'm sure you already know this, but in design having a repetition of three elements, weather it is color or embellishments etc. is more appealing to the eye than say two or four.

Paper from Sweet Shoppe, ScrapArtist, Jessica Sprague brush.  Template design and idea from Cathy Zielske.

This next assignment was so much fun to do!  We were asked to make a mini-album of the people in our lives we love.  So, I sent an e-mail to Arlene, Carmen, Torrie, and Tyler asking if they could send 5 words or phrases that describe them... they were good sports and took it seriously, (except for Arlene maybe - well at first anyway ((wink)).  This is what they came up with and I love it!

The great thing about this project is I can continue to add to it!

I love the digital kit, it came from Scrap Artist and is called Orange Romp by Bohemian Art. Template design and idea from Cathy Zielske at Big Picture Scrapbooking.

Well that's all I have for now.  Tonight we are going out with some friends, Brian and Julie, for birthday drinks.

Have a happy and creative day!

The Border!

ARRHHhhh  I hate season finales....  One of my most favourite shows is "The Border", now if you haven't seen this show, I think you're missing out on some fine Canadian content!  Seriously....  James McGowan, is dreamy and the sarcastic humor along with the bureaucracy of Federal politics makes this show something all Canadians can relate to... but alas, you will now need to wait several months for the new season, but in the meantime you could buy the boxed sets (note to self, this would be a good birthday gift for Ginger)...Ha!  The show is on the CBC - I've had a hard time forgiving the CBC for ridding itself of a previous genius show they aired for about 3 seasons, called "Intelligence".  Any of you who remember that show, will know what I am talking about, so I am skeptical for falling in love with any series. I know it's not just the CBC that has deleted shows off of it's night time spots, but really, "Intelligence" was gritty and... well... intelligent...for lack of a better word!.

 Have a great night everyone!

Loving this day!

I love Sunday's!  This morning I got up early (0730ish) and had a shower, hopped in my vehicle and got the grocery shopping done!  Usually I do that on Saturday's, but you know what?  I did not leave me house yesterday! Ha!  I have to admit... I am glued to my computer these days... it's this class I'm taking... I knew there was a reason I left facebook, LOL!!  Because I don't have the time for it!  Ha Ha!

The people in this class are amazing!  I have to say... I am learning sooo much!  There is a forum where so much chit chat is going on!  Seriously, this whole experience has been great!  I thought I would never be able to keep up to these people, but so far I am...

Here are a couple more assignments I completed...  As promised this first one is a layout of Ingrid's Garden.

I love the bright colors of the sunflowers...
Paper; BasicGrey, Alphabet stickers; BasicGrey, Journaling tag; Jillybean Soup, Button; Creative Cafe.  Layout design; Cathy Zielske.

This second layout was inspired by the Olympic Torch passing thru Alberta this week... Here are some pictures of a trip Marvin and I took to the West Coast, you can see the slopes of Whistler Blackcomb... Check it out...

In less than 4 wks... we will all be cheering on our Canadian athletes!

Paper; Bazzil & Jillybean Soup, Chipboard; BoBunny, layout design; Cathy Zielske.

Remember tonight... It is the start of season 8 of one of my favourite action shows!  "24"!!!  Did anyone see Keifer on David Letterman the other night?  He lost a bet with his buddy and his punishment was to wear a dress... I've never seen him look so uncomfortable, Ha!!  You can see it here.

The Golden Globes are also on this evening!  Ricky Gervais is hosting and I'm sure it will be hilarious!  He was on Conan O'Brien the other night, quite amusing...  So those are my plans for this evening...  What are yours?

Here is the layout I have completed of the Olympic Torch Relay.  Thanks to Carla Irwin for sending me the picture you see on the first page of the layout!  How cool is this?  What a tremendous feeling it was to see this happen...

Search for The Torch... Found!

So, the big hype this week has been about the Olympic Torch Relay.... and when I was watching the news this morning before heading out to work I said to Marv, I would love to see the Torch and get some photos... so.... I happened to be in St. Albert this afternoon for a meeting, at which point when it ended, some of the staff were standing by the window and just then we got to see the torch pass us by... a block away... not a very good view!

On my way out to my vehicle, I tried to reach my friend Brenda to find out if she wanted to partake in the festivities this evening down at Churchill Square... she did not answer, so I left a message.  I pulled out of the parking lot and was driving down St. Albert Trail... traffic was moving slowly... and I happened to pull up next to...

One of the vans that follow the torch!  So.... like any good scrapbooker...  I followed it!!

At this point the van pulled over to the side of the road where all the other vehicles were and I could not see the Torch Bearer, so I started down the trail to head home... until... I saw a couple vehicles pulled over on a side road, and I got to thinking, well... maybe the Torch is coming... so I pulled up next to an Escalade and rolled down the window... a very lovely woman, named Carla (??) told me she had just taken some pictures in St. Albert... I told her how I really needed a photo for my scrapbooking class!  She said she would e-mail one to me!!!  How nice is that???  As we were sitting there, sure enough, all the Torch Relay Trucks passed by us... with no Torch Bearer...

So... I started off again... following the trucks!

And then... before I knew it, once we passed over the Yellowhead... the trucks were pulling over and people were jumping out everywhere... the police were all over the place directing traffic... I pulled off on one of the side streets and... got this shot.....

and... this one!!!!

YEAH!!  The Torch Bearer!
The quality of the pictures are not that great... all taken from my blackberry... but I don't care!  I was there... and I got to see it!

Hope you all have a great Wednesday Night!

Marv

Here is a layout I did of Marvin!  I love the picture of him holding on to the railing of the ship...when we were on our cruise, it was the first night and extremely windy outside (I wouldn't even go to the edge, because I was too afraid!).

The papers are from Creativity by Crystal and Sweet Shoppe, Elements from Sweet Shoppe, and digital template from Cathy Zielske at Big Picture Scrapbooking.

Happy Tuesday!

Giraffes!

Okay - so my housecleaning is still suffering... LOL... Here is another digital layout I completed using some of the design principles from this weeks lesson on asymmetrical design!

I loved the giraffes at the zoo!  They were amazing to watch...

Happy Sunday!

I should mention the digital kit is from Jessica Sprague and the alphabet is from Sweet Shoppe
(they were free with the "Up & Running" class)

Just Getting Started

Wow this has been a busy week, with cleaning the house, taking down the tree and preparing for this weeks assignments, I feel like I've been hit by a tornado...and this is just the start of it!  Sophie is right now outside of the office rattling the gate, letting me know she needs some attention....  Soooo I have to make this a quick post!
I went to Treasured Memories on Friday night with my friends and we had so much fun... (as if we never would!)....
I worked on my class assignments, but I just put the final touches on them this morning... so here they are...

This first one is a digital layout of myself!  I don't do layouts of myself very often, but this one was kinda fun...

This layout was lots of work and would have been easier to do digital, but I really wanted to scrap this page, so I was prepared - I sent all the pictures off to be printed before the assignment came out...that's the nice thing about the class, Cathy has given us a list of photo sizes for the weekly assignments so we can work ahead.  This layout is from our trip to San Fransisco last February!  I loved this trip!

I love love love the color palette for this assignment!  When I saw the exercise, I knew exactly which paper I would use... This layout is about my sister Carmen and I...

All layout designs are from Cathy Zieleske at Big Picture Scrapbooking...

That's about it for now!
I hope you are all enjoying your weekend...

Assignment #3 Finished!

This assignment involved using a specific color palette.  I had sent off this picture of Sophie to be printed, and was going to pick it up tomorrow... but I found the same picture, used on another layout... so rather than waiting, I ripped it off the layout!  LOL!  Really, I just wanted to finish it and post it...Our new assignments for week 2 will be coming out on Wednesday... so I guess I am ahead of the game... yeah right!  We'll see how long that lasts!  (I really need to clean my house!).

Cheers!

More Layouts!

Here are a couple more layouts I have completed for the Design Your Life class, over at Big Picture Scrapbooking.  Check it out... the instructor is Cathy Zielske, she is quite entertaining...

Our first week of assignments are on balance and symmetry...  The first is a traditional scrap page of my beautiful pooch, Edwin... the second page is digital!!!  That's right, I actually did a full digital scrap page, Yikes! I tell you for a fast paced class like this one, knowing a bit about digi is a good thing, because those digital scrappers have one thing on us traditional folk... that's right, it's way faster...  just imagine all the time it takes to sift through the drawers, the piles, the containers of paper I have, to find the perfect combination...when you are a digital scrapper, all you have to do is click the mouse and drag the paper onto the template!  That's right, no cutting to size, no gluing, no "I'll set my page up and walk away, come back and see if I like it before I commit to it".  That's right, if you don't like it, you just click the mouse and away you go...on to the next thing...  Alright... enough rambling...  sorry!

The large picture is 11x7.5 inches...it is the largest photo I have ever used in a layout, so definitely something I have never tried before.

The nicest thing about digital scrapbooking is you can make the pictures any size to fit the layout... I like how this turned out.

There you have it!

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend....

Congratulations Tyler!

I'm putting a big shout out there for my niece Tyler, who plays goalie for the St. Albert SLASH, which is a Midget AAA Female Hockey team. They won the Macs Tournament yesterday!  This is a big deal for her as there were teams from all over Western Canada and they were the underdogs of the tournament, in third place overall for Northern Alberta.  Now they are No. 1!  Good job Tyler!  We are all very proud of you.

Happy New Year!

Thought I would try and get a quick post up... Here is what I have been working on all day! This is a layout from the class I am taking at Big Picture Scrapbooking. The instructor is Cathy Zielske, you still have time to sign up if you want... The class is called Design Your Life...it is amazing!

So this was the pre-work assignment, which was to give a snapshot of who you are with some words to describe you and what you want to achieve...  It took me so long because I had to find the right paper, the right embellishments, the right pictures...whew...I'm exhausted!  LOL!

I have two more assignments to finish tomorrow...wow, this is like being back at school!
