Preparing for a New Year!

Well, I have been having some fun on my time off!  I have been thinking about the things I would like to do in 2010.  I signed up for some classes and the one I am most looking forward to is the "Design Your Life" class at the Big Picture Scrapbooking.  I cannot wait!!  Brenda has signed up with me and even though we are both a bit nervous about the workload (three assignments/week!!), not to mention it is 3 months long.  I still think it is going to be well worth it!  If you want to sign up, check it out, you have until January 6th to register.  I bought a few more classes at Jessica Sprague, one I have worked on this weekend called "Photo Editing:  Good to Great".  I am learning sooo much stuff... I'm loving it!

Really looking forward to visiting with our friends Jen and Darren on Wednesday evening, and then for New Year's Eve we will be spending it with Wes and Nicole, my brother and sister-in-law...  Should be fun!

The past couple of days we have been dogsitting my sister's dog, "Jake".  He is about 7 years old and I'm not sure if  he has ever seen a cat before, because he didn't know what to think when he saw Norman and Sophie!  It was quite funny to see. He would not allow them to come anywhere near the living room... usually all the animals congregate with us in the evening... but not the cats...Carmen picked him up early this morning and took him home until Arlene and Torrie return from Calgary. Norm and Sophie are much happier today!

Have a good night everyone!

We opened up gifts from our Secret Santa exchange and then had a chocolate fruit fondue for dessert!  Good food and good times!

Happy Holidays everyone!

Tim Holtz Rocks!

If you have never looked at Tim Holtz's blog, you really need to, he is one of the most talented individual's when it comes to crafts...  Check out his blog here.  Every year he has the 12 Tags of Christmas where he shows techniques that are awe inspiring and jaw dropping...

These are just two of my favourites...  check out his tags from 2008 & 2007...

Can you believe he made the flowers from scratch??  Crazy cool...

Can you say "Icebox"?...

Alright, seriously, who wants to be known as the second coldest place on Earth?  Yeah, that would be where I live...On Saturday night the temperature was a record low at -46.1, which apparently was the second lowest temperature recorded that night!  Nice...eh?  We were driving back from Marvin's staff Christmas Party at Lux, and when we hit the river valley, it was -44!!  It is like living in a permanent icebox...apparently, it is suppose to get better by the weekend...

Anyway, on a positive note, at least when it's this cold, there is no snow to shovel!  Bwaha ha!!

So, the renos are now complete and now we just have to put things back, like my art room...  I need some time to figure out how I want to set it up...  (squeal of excitement!)

Right now, I am working on a Christmas gift for Marvin's mom.  She was telling me the other day she has no current pictures of Marv and I, so I decided to make her a memory booklet, like Trisha Ladouceur's.  She has another class at Treasured Memories tomorrow night...  I highly recommend this class as it is a fun project and makes a wonderful gift.  I need to finish it either tonight or Friday night as we are celebrating Christmas on Sunday with Marvin's family.

Agghhh... so much to do and such little time to do it!

I am looking forward to getting together with my friend Brenda on Thursday night!  She has the best luck when it comes to winning tickets to events...  Actually, her dad is the one who has the most luck, he gave her tickets to the movie "Nine", which has my most favourite actor in the world, Daniel Day Lewis!!!  Everything he does is amazing... not to mention there are some other heavy hitters, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Fergie, and the list goes on...

So that's what I got for tonight!  Have a good one!

It's Beginning to Look Alot Like Christmas...

Well, we have made it thru our first winter storm of the season and now it feels like Christmas is coming...Yeah!  Wow... Winter really is here, we have been so fortunate to have mild temperatures up until now...   I'm actually happy to have the snow, it makes me think of four things:
  1. Fireplace
  2. Mulled Cider
  3. Couch
  4. Christmas Music...Definitely mood inspiring... Ha!
Here are a few pictures...

This weekend I got lots of crafty time in!  I finished a Christmas Banner after being inspired from the Home Decor class I took along with all the new die cuts I got for my sizzix machine.  I could not wait to try this out and now it is hanging above my fireplace...

Everything I used for the banner came from the Making Memories line...  lots of cute embellishments!

And here is a picture of little Miss Sophie scoping out how she can do damage...  She is the instigator out of the bunch...  (she usually breaks at least one ornament a year!).

Have a great Sunday!

Busy...Busy...

Am I the only one feeling super busy??  I cannot believe how fast the weeks are flying by!!  Christmas is in 24 days... Yikes!!  Our renos are coming along nicely, the baseboards are up, Marvin gave some of the rooms a fresh coat of paint and we have the spare room all put together... now we are just waiting for the hardwood and our new King sized bed (which we just purchased this evening!) Yippee!!  I feel a bit disconnected as my art room is packed up and it looks like it will be that way for another couple of weeks at least...oh well, I guess it gives me more time for cyberspace!  Hee! Hee!

Last weekend I took Nadine's Home Decor class and had a blast.  The ladies I took the class with are regulars at Treasured Memories and we had crazy fun, and Nadine put up with us...Ha!  I hung up the star and banner at work, we also made a bonus project, (that Nadine is such a crafty person!).

We also had our staff Christmas Party on Saturday evening.  It was catered by Absolutely Edibles which was awesome.  The food was great and so was the service, well worth it.  Michelle, one of my colleagues was the hostess and she has a beautiful home with 2 lovely and energetic daughters, along with two dogs, one of which is a 160lbs Newfoundlander, named Gus... wow, was he big and very friendly!

Arlene, Carmen and I took our Aunt Linda out for Sunday Brunch at the Sawmill.  I haven't been to the Sawmill for many years, and it was quite enjoyable.  We sat and visited for 4 hours... wow...

So Arlene, Carmen and I are going to get together and make poppyroll!!  My mom makes the best poppyroll ever! We had a minor discrepancy already... Arlene and I believe we need to make it the way mom always did (with melted lard - I know, doesn't sound appealing), but we feel quite strongly about making it the way mom always did.  Carmen and Aunt Linda think we should make it with butter, so we might actually do both and have a taste test!  What do you think?  Butter or lard?  Ha!  (mom if you are reading this, you better set us straight!  Ha!)

I thought I would leave you with a pic of my new ride...  I don't miss the Audi one bit... I love my Toureg!!

Beautiful...

I have just finished another assignment for the class I am taking on-line.  Check out the link here... A picture of my two nieces, Torrie & Tyler...

I'm still not convinced digital scrapbooking is for me, but... I am learning lots!  I can see why there would be an addiction to it, it still has the essence of traditional scrappin' with all the pretty patterned paper (just not tactile- or maybe it's the spreading out with my supplies that I enjoy so much).  However, now that my art room is all packed up due to the renos, I just might get use to this!  LOL!

Have a great night everyone!

Treasured Memories Class

The talented Nadine with Delight Designs has been very busy!  Check out her blog, this woman is amazing.  I have signed up for her Holiday Home Decor class at Treasured Memories for Nov. 28th.  We will be making a Christmas Banner and decorating a star...ewww, I can't wait...

Check it out....

Pretty.... I know exactly where this will hang!

House of Three

Check out the new digital goodies from House Of Three... They have some freebies too... I love this Vintage Christmas Brush set... Ohhhh I can't wait...HeHe!

Winter Coat...

We were pleasantly surprised to wake up yesterday morning to a small bit of snow.  Here is a picture of Eddie enjoying the weather in his "Winter Coat"...

Poor Edwin, I took him to the dog park last week and he got kennel cough from visiting with the other dogs.  So we took him to the vet and he has to take an antibiotic and cough suppressant.  At first we tried to shove the pills down his throat, but a friend suggested squishing them into some cheese, Eddie loves cheese... and that's what we have been doing...

So, I love love love my photoshop!! Hee Hee!  I can't believe what I have learned from the class I'm taking (see my last post - "Finally").  I was up until 2:00 a.m. last night, playing around... then up at 7:00... I woke up thinking in my head about all the things I want to try with my House of Three downloads.  LOL! I'm like a kid at Christmas, what can I say?...

Just listening to the new David Grey CD, drinking a cup of coffee, mmmm....life doesn't get much better than this!  I highly recommend his new CD if you are a David Grey fan you will love this one.  I would love to see him again...

Another highly recommended artist, is Mark Knopfler!  Love his new CD as well!  Check it out...

So I will admit this to all of you now... I like Country music... I grew up on it... I know... back then it was known as "Country and Western"... What can I say?  I can remember my mom getting up in the morning, and the first thing she would do is turn on the radio to CJWW... I listened to Waylon, Conway, Merle, Dolly...you get the picture.  It's funny, Marvin likes to watch the "Grand Ole Opry" and if I sit with him, I will sing along to the old stuff, and he is usually amazed that I know the words... So where is this headed you ask?...Well I haven't listened much to country for many years (by that I mean, I don't actually have a country cd in my car)... but last weekend was the CMA's and there was an artist who won an award... Jamey Johnson, wow, I was kinda blown away by his voice... If you like country music, you probably already know about this artist, but for those of you who kinda like country... you might like to check him out.  One of the things I love about him is his traditional country sound (he sounds like Waylon Jennings, he has strong and deep voice), and what's even better... he is a songwriter.

So there you have it... check them out...

Finally!

So I have been trying to learn how to use my adobe photoshop elements program for several months now... everyone I talk with says the same thing... it's very difficult... not to mention very frustrating...until tonight!! I have found this website that provides online education, yeah!  Wow, finally... her name is Jessica Sprague and let me tell you it is awesome.  I have learned more in the last 2 hours than I have reading "photoshop for dummies" the past 3 months. I signed up for the "Up & Running with Photoshop", which is an introduction to digital scrapbooking using photoshop.  This is what I created in two hours...

Cool eh?  Now don't get me wrong here... I know I have always said I would never do digital scrappin', however, there are times when you need to do things you don't want, to get to the place you want to be... Ha!  That's right, you have to learn the tools before you can use them...  They also have intermediate and advanced classes... I am so excited!

Gone With the Wind...

All week I have been looking forward to getting together with my sisters and niece to see the updated version of "Gone With the Wind".  It is the 70th Anniversary of this classic!  When I asked Torrie if she would be able to sit through the four hours, her response was "I assure you I can, I have seen it about 25 times!"  Wow, now there is a fan!

After the movie I rushed home to help Marvin with preparing for our evening dinner.  We had our friends Darren and Jen over for lasagna, and let me tell you, Marvin did not disappoint.  He added a layer of salciccia and when our guests arrived, he decided to whip up a marinara sauce to place on the plate when serving the lasagna... yummo!  We started the meal with a tasty Caesar salad and finished with an amazing chocolate pie I made the night before.  By the end of it we were definitely stuffed and could barely breathe...  Good wine, good food, and good friends makes for a good time in my books!

Cards and more cards!

I had a very productive day!  I created three more cards for the Christmas Craft Sale... whew... after this weekend my crafting will have to slow down as we are planning renos, which includes a face lift to my art room.  Hardwood, carpet and new baseboards throughout the upstairs are all on the agenda.  My house will be a disaster zone, because we also bought a King sized bed and bedroom suite, which is being delivered before the renos will be complete, so.... the new bedroom suite will have to remain in the living room for a bit...  Hopefully this will not drive me crazy...  and hopefully I can get my Christmas tree up in time for us to enjoy it a bit this year... Ha!
Anyway, here are a few pictures of what I did today...
You can't tell too much from the picture, but I did emboss some snow flakes onto the blue paper to give it some sparkle... you can see it a bit better in the close up picture.

This card is from a sketch from here.  I love this paper!

I love the paper from SEI . The textured design is gorgeous.

Well, I think that's it for the day...  I hope you all had a restful day... until next time...

The Case of the Disappearing Cat Food!

So I have to tell this story...  We feed the cats their food on the cat tree in the spare room.  We put it up there so Edwin will not eat it, however, we do have a couch in the room and he will stand on top of it and eat the food if we don't put the gate across the doorway.  For a few months now I have been suspicious that he is able to get under the gate (I have a space of about 6 inches below, so the cats can easily get under it instead of jumping over).  So, I tested him.  I have done this twice.  I stand on one side of the gate and call him, he tries to wiggle under and is whining the whole time, but obviously he is not able to do it...!  The other day, I was heading out to work, and as I got into my car, I realized I had forgotten my cell phone.  When I went back into the house, Edwin did not come to the door... "strange", I thought.  I looked around the corner up the stairs, and sure as heck... there he was, on the OTHER side of the gate!!  Boy was he shocked to see me!  What a good little actor he is tricking me to think he can't get under the gate!  No wonder he isn't losing any weight (he is suppose to be on a diet)... and no wonder the cats are always looking for food!

Remembrance Day

Let's all take some time out of our busy schedules to remember those who died for our great country!

Passa Tempo!

Friday night after scrapbooking, I hooked up with some good friends of ours.  Marv, Brian and Julie were at Passa Tempo which is a little wine bar, you can read about here.  Dianna is the manager and sommelier, she will offer you whatever suits your palette...What a wonderful way to end the evening...

Christmas Craft Sale!

Friday night we got together at Treasured Memories for our monthly scrapbooking fix...  Shelli and I worked on our Christmas cards and tags for the Christmas Craft Sale at work.  I created 4 different tags and two cards... and I was a bit exhausted by the end of it all... whew... I got to see my friend Wendy, who has the most amazingly colorful pages with lots of pictures of her two adorable children.  Jamie and Shelli were non stop story telling which led to many fits of laughter... Ahhh... life is good...

Here are a couple pictures of what I worked on.

KC called this card a patchwork quilt... I designed it from a sketch from here.  I used some leftover Christmas paper (Prima) from last year, I love the color combination of the softer blue, red and green.

This card is very simple to make.  I used my sizzix to dry emboss the front of the card. I love the little red rhinestone on the star...

Here are a few of the tags I made using my sizzix again...

Some more tags... (I love the poinsetta...also from Prima)

So there you have it...something to get your creative juices flowing...LOL!

Treatments Completed!

Mom had her last chemo treatment on Friday!  She is doing very well and will now have to take pills for a few years.  She will be taking it easy for the next couple of weeks because her immune system is pretty low and she will not be able to get her flu vaccines for a bit.  It's great that she is done so she can move on with healing herself.

Here is a picture of her getting her hair sheared and another with her wig...  She looks pretty good!  Her hair should start growing back soon, now that the treatments are over...

Have a great night everyone!
